Ski Touring
Ski touring / alpine touring involves the use of ski equipment so the user can climb / descend slopes without using ski lifts.
The differences are skins that attach to the base of skis & a binding with a freeheel for climbing.
The free heel allows fluid walking movements when ascending or crossing flat slopes.
The skin is usually made of Mohair, Nylon or a mix of both. They grip the snow and prevent the skis from sliding backwards.
Climbing with skins is usually known as skinning.
Ski Touring involves
climbing up steep icy slopes, normally you need ski crampons made from steel which have a sawtooth design which grips the slopes.
